North Jersey Submarine Burglar From Long Island Enters Program That Can Clear His Record
A Long Island man who was accused of breaking into the flooded USS Ling submarine on the Hackensack River with four other people was admitted to a program that will erase the charges against him if he keeps his nose clean. Robert J. Hemberger, 41, of Island Park, NY, must complete 10 hours of community service, among various conditions of the New Jersey Superior Court Pre-Trial Intervention Program, for his role in the summer 2018 invasion of the World War II submarine. Hemberger was one of five people charged with looting the landmark museum after it had been flooded. The intruders parked…

The Ragnarök Vaults: Former NJ Reporter Pens Cold War Spy Novel
The Cold War loomed over Michael Perrota's childhood growing up in Nutley in the 1980s. Nearly every movie he watched, book he read and video game he played served as stark reminders of the past. Perrota developed a fascination with the war, devoting much of his time trying to understand it and how it affected the modern world. "In the end, it's a fun a spy novel," said Perrota, a dad of three from Fair Lawn. "But withi…

A group of veterans have lately been at work on the USS Ling. They’ve patched a 3-inch hole in the hull, cleaned up the interior, restored one of the dive klaxons and made the once-floating museum’s horn functional again. Next stop: Caddell Dry Dock & Repair in Staten Island. Promises of restoration and relocation followed after Hurricane Sandy swept away the walkway from shore, leaving the foundering sub severely damaged and mired i…

Paramus Schools Chief: We Didn't Know Crash Driver Had Moving Violations
Paramus Schools Supt. Michele Robinson insisted the district wasn't aware that the school bus driver involved in a crash that killed a middle school student and teacher last month had an extensive history of violations behind the wheel. She also demanded that North Jersey Media Group publish a correction to “blatantly inaccurate” reporting. “As I have said repeatedly, we do not have any information from the state that [Hudy] Muldrow [Sr.] had any moving violations,” Robinson wrote in a letter to parents. “The driving abstract provided to us by the Motor Vehicle Commission did not reflect t…
