DUI Driver Rams Police K9 Vehicle Containing Two Dogs In Bergen County: Police A Newark man was arrested early Friday morning, Dec. 13, after crashing his vehicle into a sign and later ramming a police K9 vehicle in Maywood, police said. The incident unfolded around 1:07 a.m. when Maywood officer John Burns spotted a vehicle at the intersection of Maywood Avenue and Lenox Avenue with its driver, Florencio Hernandez-Rivera, asleep at the wheel, the department said. Prosecutor: Maywood DWI Driver Charged After Leaving Passenger Critical MAYWOOD, N.J. – A Maywood welder who crashed his hatchback into two utility poles and a tree before dawn Wednesday, leaving his passenger near death, was charged with assault by auto and DWI, authorities said. The crash occurred exactly a year to the day that 21-year-old Benjamin Scarpulla lost his mother, Deirdre Scarpulla, 47, to cancer.
