: Man Rescued From Base Of Great Falls In Paterson
PHOTOS: City firefighters rescued a man from the base of the Great Falls in Paterson shortly after midnight Sunday. The rescuers used a tethered raft to row their way to the 32-year-old man, who was sitting on on the rocky island near the hydroelectric plant off McBride Avenue at Overlook Park's Lower Pavillion, city Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said. He claimed he'd jumped from the footbridge above the falls, but that's a drop of more than seven stories. "There were no witnesses to confirm it," Speziale said. "The city recently reinvested in rescue operations with the purchase …

Firefighters were forced into an exterior operation and had the blaze under control in just over an hour. None were injur…

): Responders Rescue Man Who Dropped Cellphone From Base Of Paterson's Great Falls
Video shows the dramatic rescue of a man from the base of the Great Falls in Paterson after he fell trying to retrieve his dropped cellphone. A rappelling responder got to the unidentified man -- who was in a t-shirt, shorts and a single sock with no shoes -- as the water rushed by Saturday morning. He then secured a line around the man and had him hold on as police, firefighters and others lifted both of them up the side of the rocks and through an opening they’d created in a chain-link fence. They then put him on a stretcher and carried him to a waiting ambulance. The man, who’d fallen …

Artists To Visit Paterson's Historic Hinchliffe Stadium
PATERSON, N.J. -- Visitors will keep their eyes open but no doubt hear echoes during a “mobile workshop” at historic Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson sponsored this Friday by the National Consortium for Creative Placemaking. Part of a two-day Northeast summit at Drew University, the workshop visit aims to help artists participate in a current façade restoration project to help revitalize the surrounding neighborhood. Set above the Great Falls, the 10,000-seat Hinchliffe Stadium – built during the Great Impression -- is one of only three remaining ballparks from the Jim Crow era of segregated …
