Memorial Set For Edgewater Teen Killed In Tragic Accident While In Iran For Family Wedding
Jahnan Rahimpour was wise beyond his years. At just 14 years old, the Edgewater native was already an activist who was passionate about volunteering and did so often. His most recent volunteer work was at the Leonia Library and at the Bergen County Rowing Academy, developing skills of newcomers at Overpeck Park. Fluent in Farsi, Jahnan was proud of his Persian heritage and was thrilled to visit his parents' native country of Iran this summer for his aunt's wedding. It was during that trip, though, that joy turned to tragedy for Jahnan's family. Or as his mother, Asal, says: "The weddi…

New River Edge Police Chief Brings Fresh, Effective Approach To Serving, Protecting
River Edge Police Chief Michael Walker has been the borough’s top cop for barely a year, but he's already made huge strides in refitting his department. People who hear "reorganization" often worry about the effect on taxes. Walker made sure to take care of that. Shortly after becoming chief last May, the new chief addressed promotions and additions. At first, he worked with the mayor and council to bring back the captain’s position, which had remained vacant for more than 20 years. Capt. Craig Casey has been in the job since last September. Once he had that move completed, Walker back-…

Bergen Tech Students Make Donated Humvee Street Legal For Hackensack Police Department
Doing their part for public safety, a group of students in the Bergen County Technical School Basic Auto Body Class helped convert a donated Humvee to join the Hackensack Police Department’s fleet. The vehicles are used for high-water rescues in the city – which have been happening more frequently with the increased rainfall this year. The latest addition brings the department’s total to three and comes from Fort Dix through the LESO 1033 Program. “The students painted the vehicle as part of a school project for us,” said Officer Frank R. McCall, a traffic investigator with the department.…
