Graphic Footage Shows Good Samaritans, Police Dragging Injured Newark Officer To Safety
Newly-released footage shows the terrifying moment one of two rookie, Newark police officers were shot by a sniper Tuesday, Nov. 1 (scroll for video). The footage apparently captured by neighbors shows a good Samaritan stop her vehicle to help one of the injured officers bleeding from his neck on the ground near Van Velsor Place and Chancellor Avenue. Newark Man Charged With Killing, Dismembering 49-Year-Old Coworker
A Newark man has been charged with killing and dismembering his 49-year-old coworker, authorities said. Salustino Santiago's dismembered was found on the 100 block of Chancellor Avenue on Nov. 20, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. Angel Velez, 56, who lives and works in the building with Santiago, was subsequently charged with murder and desecration of human remains, authorities said. The investigation is active and ongoing. Off-Duty Corrections Officer Arrested In Newark Stabbing That Left Victim Critical
A 34-year-old state corrections officer was arrested in connection with stabbing that left another woman in critical condition, authorities said. Miesha Robinson was off-duty from her job at the Northern State Prison when police responded to Leslie Street near Chancellor Avenue around 1:30 p.m. last Saturday, on reports of a stabbing, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Irvington Man Accused Of Killing Police Officer In 2005 Fatally Shot
An Irvington man with an extensive criminal history was gunned down on a Newark street Monday night, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said. Hassan Reeds, 46, was found unresponsive on the sidewalk around 5:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Chancellor Avenue by police responding to a call of shots fired. Reeds was pronounced dead at University Hospital less than an hour later.
