Man In Lyndhurst Nightclub Stabbing Gets 3 Years, Says Victim Deserved It LYNDHURST, N.J. -- An East Orange man got a break from a judge in Hackensack yesterday after he suggested that a man he stabbed with a box cutter in the parking lot of a Lyndhurst nightclub had it coming. “Do you understand if [Eric] Burrell had died, you’d be going to prison for the rest of your life?” Superior Court Judge Edward A. Learn Your Flood Risk At Passaic Information Sessions PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. -- New flood risk maps developed by FEMA are now available. County officials invite property owners to an open house Wednesday, Nov. 4 or Thursday, Nov. 5, to learn more about flood risk using the new maps. Everyone is at risk of flooding, they warn, and should be aware of the probable levels to be prepared. The Nov. 4 open house is in the Carnevale Center, 10 Lenox Ave., Pompton Lakes and the Nov. 5 open house is in Passaic Valley Regional High School, 100 E. Main St., Little Falls. Happy Birthday To Passaic's Franklin Van Antwerpen PASSAIC, N.J. -- Happy Birthday to Franklin Stuart Van Antwerpen! The senior U.S. Circuit Court judge was born in Passaic 73 years ago, Oct. 23. Van Antwerpen studied at the University of Maine, and earned his law degree at Temple University Beasley School of Law. He was in private practice in Easton, Pa. before becoming judge on the Court of Common Pleas. He was first appointed to the federal bench by President Ronald Reagan in 1987, then nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit by President George H.W. Bush. Chef Central Raises More Than $3,000 For Animal Shelter OAKLAND, N.J. -- Chef Central raised $3,300 at its “Sharpening for Charity” event Saturday, Oct. 17. The money was donated to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge Inc. in Oakland. To benefit the animal refuge, skilled knifesmiths sharpened any knife for a donation of $3 each. The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge is the leading no-kill animal shelter in Bergen County and depends on donations to care for its animals. It currently offers a free “Pit Stop” pit bull spaying program for the City of Paterson, which has too many of the gregarious pets, to try and reduce the population. Chef Central hosts c…

Verismo Opera Seeks Singers For Auditions At BergenPAC ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -- The application deadline for the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera’s annual vocal competition is Saturday, Oct. 31. A special feature of the competition is a new, free master class that will be offered to singers accepted to audition in the preliminary round. Passaic County Judge Denies He Made Inappropriate Comments PATERSON, N.J. -- A Passaic County Superior Court judge is denying allegations he made vulgar and sexually suggestive comments in his courtroom, which has landed him before the state Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct, Northjersey.com reported.
