Driver, 34, Killed, Baby Injured After Rear-Ending Tractor-Trailer On NJ Turnpike: Police

A 34-year-old Nutley man was killed and his 20-month-old baby injured when the sedan they were riding in struck the back of a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County on Sunday night, Sept. 29, police said.

Justin Veras was heading north in a Toyota Camry when he struck the back of a disabled Kenworth tractor-trailer in the right lane near milepost 121.4 in Fort Lee around 9:10 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

Veras was killed while the baby was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Lebron said.

There were no other injuries reported and the crash remains under investigation.
