Haworth School Gets Visit From Award-Winning Author

HAWORTH, N.J. -- Award-winning children/young adult book author Jordan Sonnenblick will visit Haworth Public School Friday, Feb. 5 to discuss his books and the life and work of an author.

Sonnenblick will be speaking to students in grades 6-8. He has written nine books and has won multiple writing awards. The author has written books for children in grades 3 and up.

Sonnenblick is best known for his first novel “Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie,” which he wrote for one of his students while he was an eighth-grade English teacher.

Born on an Army base in Missouri, Sonnenblick's father got out of the Army a year later, and he spent the rest of his childhood in Staten Island, N.Y.

He attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he majored in English. After college, he joined Teach for America and taught fifth grade in Houston.

Later, he moved to Pennsylvania with his wife. He taught eighth-grade English in New Jersey for 11 years. To learn more about Sonnenblick, visit: jordansonnenblick.com.
