The dril was to test the ability of what’s known as the Interboro Mutual Aid Group to quickly and smoothly organize all its people, equipment and other resources.
“Presumably all responding agencies would know how to deploy their equipment and personnel into a firefighting task such as water supply, foam support, or mass evacuation,” the group said in a statement this week. “This exercise will test whether or not an effective command structure can be developed and positioned to supervise and guide those resources.”
Anticipated problems included coordinating radio frequencies and remaining individually focused on assignments.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the Interboro Mutual Group is made of various Bergen County fire departments that provide assistance to one another throughout the county.
It includes fire companies from Alpine, Bergenfield, Closter, Cresskill, Demarest, Dumont, Harrington Park, Haworth, Northvale, Norwood, Old Tappan, Rockleigh and Tenafly. The New Milford FD is an associate member.
