A 23-year-old Old Tappan and a 24-year-old woman from Hillsdale each was arrested for DWI. The man also was hit with a pot charge.
Various summonses were issued, as well.
River Vale police remind drivers that, besides jail time, you could lose your license and your job — not to mention the cost of a lawyer, court fees, lost work time and higher insurance rates.
“Nighttime driving is the most deadly,” Detective Sgt. John DeVoe said. “Seventy-eight percent of the alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal crashes during December 2010 were driving from 6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.
“Data further shows that during December 2010, 45 percent of drivers involved in fatal crashes from 12 a.m. to 2:59 a.m. had [blood alcohol levels] of .15 or higher,” he added, citing National Highway Traffic Safety statistics.
Last week, the checkpoint yielded:
- a 27-year-old Union City man wanted on an outstanding warrant. He also received a summons for being unlicensed driver and not having proof of insurance;
- a 30-year-old male West New York man on an outstanding warrant;
- a 21-year-old Englewood man who they said gave them false information and was unlicensed.
