John Edward English, 84, Northvale Resident

NORTHVALE, N.J. -- John Edward English, of Northvale, died on Tuesday, Feb. 16. He was 84.

English was an ironworker and life member of Local 40 in New York City. He also worked for the New York City Department of Buildings.

He loved boating, especially with his sons and grandchildren. "He also enjoyed his afternoon table at Dunkin Donuts, where he will be dearly missed," according to information provided by the Pizzi Funeral Home.

English is survived by his wife, Alice (Stears) English; children James and his wife Patricia of Warwick, New York, Joseph of Tappan, New York, John of Old Tappan, New York, and Alice Lyman and her husband John of Tappan; grandchildren Jimmy, Joseph, Michael, Sean, Haley, Lauryn and Maya; and sister Lillian Marrone.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Carmel Casella and Agnes English.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave., in Northvale. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, in Tappan, with interment to follow at Tappan Cemetery.
