Haworth Plans To Enhance Downtown Streetscape

HAWORTH, N.J. -- Streetscape improvements long planned for Haworth’s Stevens Place promise a new look for the downtown side street, NorthJersey.com reported.

The Borough Hall and Haworth Library both front Stevens Place, a short street parallel to Terrace Street and the business district. A grant the borough received must be committed by Nov. 22, meaning contracts for the spending must be awarded by then, according to NorthJersey.com.

Among the planned improvements are new curbing, road resurfacing, and tree planting. The project has been under discussion since 2003, starting with sidewalks, the story said.

Officials say the streetscape project will beautify and enhance the areas behind stores on Terrace Street, as well as the area around the borough hall and the recently expanded library, NorthJersey.com said.

A 2014 grant of $149,000 from the state Department of Transportation will pay for the improvements, with a possible additional amount of $30,000 needed, according to Borough Engineer Christopher Statile, NorthJersey.com reported.
