Northern Valley Teen Artist Wins National Honor

OLD TAPPAN, N.J. -- A senior at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan has been chosen as a 2016 YoungArts National Award winner.

Principal Bruce Sabatini and District Supervisor of Related Arts Jonathan Harris announce that senior Sun Woo Kim is one of 850 award winners from 47 states and from a pool of more than 12,000 applications.

Founded in 1981, the National YoungArts Foundation recognizes and supports America's most talented 15-18 year olds in the visual, literary and performing arts. 

Each of the students selected for recognition were chosen through a competitive, blind adjudication process with their artistic portfolio evaluated by noted artists, educators and creatives from across the United States. 

Kim was selected in the visual arts category and according to the National YoungArts Foundation now joins the ranks of more than 20,000 YoungArts alumni. 

She joins such notables as actresses Vanessa Williams, Viola Davis, and Kerry Washington; four-time Tony Award nominee Raul Esparza; recording artists Nicki Minaj and Chris Young; violinist Jennifer Koh; choreographer Desmond Richardson; and internationally acclaimed multimedia artist Doug Aitken.
