From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the farmstand is handing out one donut a person, and no purchase is necessarily, though there are many items on offer, including fresh produce, herbs, plants and assorted gifts.
National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday in June. It began in 1938, as a Salvation Army fundraiser. The event was both to help those suffering during the Depression and to honor Salvation Army volunteers of World War I, who had provided U.S. soldiers donuts, among other respite.
Stokes Farm, and its farmstand location, are located at 23 De Wolf Rd., in Old Tappan. It's a family farm that was founded back in 1873 and has been farmed by six generations now.
