Dog Attacked By Bear In Morris County Backyard, Police Say Police have issued a warning to Morris County residents after a dog was attacked by a bear in a local backyard. Officers were called to a home on Scott Street in Butler the day after the Saturday, August 20 attack, police said. A friend of the dog’s owner had apparently been pet sitting when the animal was let outside, police said. The friend was unaware that a mother bear and her cubs had entered the backyard, which was fenced. Bear Jumps On Roof, Hangs Around Wawa During Trek Through Hudson County A black bear was spotted in some unusual places this weekend in Hudson County. The animal was first reported near the Kearny Wawa around 4 p.m. Saturday, then at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison. Approximately 12 hours later, the bear was spotted on top of a business at Cleveland and Passaic avenues.  Police said the bear eventually climbed down and ran across the street to the Hampton Inn. Uniformed officers from Midland Park, Ridgewood and Waldwick chased the furry forager through area yards. The bear played in trash, sunbathed on the grass, then hustled his tuchus up a tree behind a home on Evergreen Street around lunchtime. Right behind was intrepid photographer Boyd Loving.
