OD Victim Revived After Ringing Saddle Brook Doorbells: Her 2nd Narcan Save In Three Days
A drug user who'd just gotten off a bus in Saddle Brook was revived by responding police officers after she suffered a drug overdose while ringing doorbells looking for help Saturday afternoon, authorities said. It was the second time in three days that police used Narcan to save her. Feds Grant Mahwah $300,000 To Help Fight Opioid Abuse
The federal government has granted Mahwah $299,360 for anti-opioid programs, training and initiatives, as authorities increase their attention to synthetic drugs – particularly fentanyl. The Justice Department Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery grant will help township police and the Mahwah Municipal Alliance “not only build on existing [community-based] programs but also introduce new and innovative programs to deter substance abuse,” Mayor Bill Laforet said Thursday. : New Milford Police Rescue OD Victim, 51, In Locked SUV
A group of New Milford police officers rescued a 51-year-old borough woman who’d overdosed in her locked SUV. An officer broke the window so he and his colleagues could get to the victim in a rear River Road parking lot late Friday afternoon, Detective Lt. Kevin Van Saders said. They immediately administered CPR and then Narcan, which brought her around, he said. The woman -- who told police she'd taken oxycodone -- was taken to Holy Name Medical Center by a hospital ambulance, Van Saders said. The heroes: Capt. Kevin Kiene, Lt. Bergen Prosecutor: Local Police Save 7 OD Victims With Narcan In Five Days
Local police officers in several Bergen County towns used Narcan to save the lives of seven overdose victims in five days, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said Wednesday. Calo listed the saves: Last Wednesday: Lyndhurst, 45-year-old man; Thursday: Fort Lee, 52-year-old woman; Friday: Oakland, 25-year-old man; Saturday (2): Elmwood Park, 33-year-old victim, Hackensack, 27-year-old man; Sunday: Wallington, 38-year-old man; Monday: Old Tappan, 30-year-old woman. Bergen Prosecutor: 'Helping Hand' Continues To Reach Opioid Addicts
HACKENSACK, N.J. – More than three dozen heroin users arrested in Bergen County over a four-day period got more than summonses to appear in court: They were each also offered the opportunity to connect with a recovering addict who could one day help save his or her life. Elmwood Park Police Revive Garfield OD Victim, 19, Found Face-Down In Snow
ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Elmwood Park police revived a 19-year-old overdose victim found face-down in the snow early Tuesday evening. It took two rounds of Narcan from Officer Chris Finn to help bring the unconscious victim around after he was found around 5 p.m. on Mill Street, Police Chief Michael Foligno said. The Elmwood Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson. A resident who witnessed the save praised police and EMTs for their fast and decisive work in rescuing the victim.
