There's been an outpouring of support for a Woodbridge Department of Public Works employee struck by lightning this week. Eric Baumgartner survived the strike after a Woodbridge police officer performed life-saving CPR. Baumgartner was painting lines for the soccer field at Iselin Middle School on Wednesday, June 14, and didn't hear anything over the loud noise of the machine he was using when the lightning strike came down, a GoFundMe page says. Third Victim Killed In White House Lightning Strike Was LA Bank Employee, 29, On Business Trip
A 29-year-old Los Angeles bank employee in Washington DC for business has been identified as the third person to die after being struck by lightning this week near the White House, his employer announced. Brooks A. Lambertson, along with James Mueller, 76, and Donna Mueller, 75, of Janesville, Wisconsin, also died after the three were struck Thursday, Aug. 4 directly outside of the White House complex, DC police said Friday. Monday afternoon was just another work day for South Seaside Park guard Keith Pinto, who sat in the lifeguard chair under clear skies surrounded by his colleagues and beach goers. A kitchen socket was blown off the wall, a surveillance camera was knocked from the back of the home and a window was blown out when lightning struck a backyard tree in Glen Rock during Wednesday night's storm, authorities said. "The vacationing homeowner is extremely lucky, as is the family dog," Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. Army Vet Struck Dead By Lighting While Playing Golf In Pennsylvania
Severe weather has claimed the life of a Pennsylvania man, who was struck by lightning during a round of golf. Joseph Slivinski, 71, of Lackawanna County, was struck by lightning while playing golf on Friday at Pine Hills Golf Course, according to the county coroner. Slivinski was attempting to find shelter when he was fatally injured, he died at the golf course around 1:30 p.m. A South Jersey golfer was struck and killed by lightning last month. : Lightning Strike In Wyckoff Knocks Out Traffic Lights
A Wyckoff police dashcam captured video of a lightning strike Friday afternoon that zapped a power line, knocking out power to several customers -- as well as area traffic signals. The bolt hit the line at 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of Wyckoff and Russell avenues, leaving it burning in the roadway, Lt. Joseph Soto said. Wyckoff Avenue was closed in both directions between Franklin and Russell avenues until about 5 p.m. Orange & Rockland restored most power except for an isolated area around the downed line. No injuries were reported.
