Video footage captured the moment a building owned by the Newark Housing Authority exploded last week. Six people, including one with severe burns, were injured in the explosion at 39 S. Pine Lane on Friday, July 21, just after 6:05 p.m., a spokeswoman for the Newark Police Department said (scroll for videos). The explosion collapsed the building, leaving 31 people displaced. A 56-year-old Union County man died while trying to light a fire pit but instead sparked an explosion that may have killed him, local police said. Officers arriving at the home on Warwick Road in Hillside found the man with burns covering nearly 75 percent of his body just before 4 p.m. Monday, Hillside Police Det. Natalie Ogonowski said. WAYNE, N.J. -- Propane fed a raging fire that consumed a Wayne house Friday, causing several small explosions and drawing dozens of firefighters. No injuries were reported. The noontime blaze broke out on a rear deck (see photo above) before racing through the MacDonald Drive home, occupied by a man and his daughter, responders at the scene said.
