Van With 10 Occupants Rolls Down Embankment Off Rt. 287, Seriously Injuring Driver, Passenger A van with 10 occupants rolled down an embankment Tuesday, August 15, seriously injuring the driver and one of the passengers, authorities said. The crash occurred by the off-ramp from the Hamburg Turnpike to Rt. 287 North near Walmart in Riverdale around 3 a.m., according to the Riverdale Fire Department. The van was located about 30 feet down an embankment in a wooded area, where eight of its 10 occupants had self-extricated, the squad said. Truck Tire Explosion ‘Sends Rubber Flying’ Into Fire Engine As Crews Douse Route 287 Blaze The back tire of a smoldering truck exploded and hit the responding fire crew’s vehicle on Route 287 in Morris County, authorities said. The Riverdale Fire Department’s incident commander had just arrived at the scene of the blaze in the northbound lanes between Route 23 and the Hamburg Turnpike when one of the smoldering truck’s back tires exploded and “[sent] rubber flying into the side of his vehicle” just after 4:05 p.m. Sunday, the department confirmed on Facebook Thursday.
