The 15-year-old girl was crossing Bergen Street at Springfield Avenue when she was struck by Jimmy Jones around 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. Driver Left To Die In Newark Crash After Friends Bailed, Family Says Family of a 23-year-old man killed in a Newark crash say he was left to die after friends bailed from the scene. Tahir Knox was removed from a Nissan Altima that lost control and struck a Chevy Tahoe on Bergen Street, after being struck by an eastbound BMW on Avon Avenue around 2 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said. Knox was removed from the Altima by first responders and taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. Another passenger in the car was treated for leg injuries.
