He was 41. Born in Hackettstown, Polachek graduated from West Morris Central High School and the County College of Morris, his obituary says. Polachek worked as a Registered Nurse at the House of Good Shepard and was a former member of both the Mansfield and Long Valley Emergency Squads — including the group that responded to the 9/11 disaster in New York City, according to his memorial.
