Leonardo Man, 37, Struck, Killed By BMW On I-78 In Newark

A Monmouth County man was killed when he was hit by a BMW while walking on a ramp to Interstate 78 westbound in Newark, police said.

Travis J. Sherman, 37, of Leonardo in Middletown Township, was struck at 8:50 p.m. Thursday as he walked on the ramp leading to the highway from Routes 1 and 9 north, according to New Jersey State Police.

Sherman was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The man driving the BMW suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. No charges were filed, they said.

Police said the fatal crash is under investigation, and that it is unknown why Sherman was on the roadway. I-78 was closed for two hours during the investigation.
