Police in Central Jersey were responding to reports of a coyote chasing people.
Middletown police were called about 10:30 a.m. about a coyote "running in the streets," hat was suspected to be rabid because of its erratic behavior.
After the coyote ran off into the woods, police were awaiting the arrival of animal control officers ;near Mills Avenue in the Port Monmouth section of town, authorities said.
