Authorities turned to the public for help finding the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash in Metuchen on Monday that left a utility worker in critical condition.

A white pickup truck struck the victim in the crosswalk at Middlesex Avenue and Grove Street around 9 a.m. Monday and kept going,  police said.

The pickup, possibly a Nissan Frontier, has an extended cab with markings on the side and tailgate, Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Metuchen Police Chief David Irizarry said in a joint statement.

The driver had a passenger, authorities noted.

The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, they said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that can help find the driver is asked to call Sgt. Robert Belluscio at (732) 632-8500 or Middlesex County Prosecutor's Detective Jonathan Berman (732) 745-4328.
