The officers included a lieutenant and three captains, according to the Trenton Police Department’s annual “major discipline” report, which is posted to the department’s website.
The reports are mandated by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Suspensions ranged from 51 to 111 days, according to the report. No one was demoted.
Each was found to have violated the infraction of "conduct unbecoming a public employee."
The report uses the same description of their infraction: “During calendar year 2021 and 2022 [the officer] cancelled time from the Police Officer Scheduling System resulting in misuse of accrued time."
Trenton officials confirmed the payroll investigation in April 2023 when details began to become public.
The problems were examined by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and state Attorney General’s Office, each of which passed on preparing a criminal case.
Last year, officials said that the officers were suspected of manipulating their payroll records after they took vacation or sick time to make it appear they still had the extra time off to use.
