US Marshals Nab Accused Gunman In Trenton Homicide

A 36-year-old man was arrested by members of the US Marshals in connection with a deadly Trenton shooting, authorities announced.

The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office filed a motion to detain Matthew Tanner, 36, pending trial, Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said.

Tanner is accused of shooting Daquan Basnight on the 800 block of Stuyvesant Avenue around 12:20 a.m. on Aug. 1, Onofri said.

Basnight, 30, of Ewing was found lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to his face and body.

Tanner was arrested without incident Tuesday evening in Trenton by members of the MCHTF, the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Trenton Police Street Crimes Unit. 

He is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and one count of second-degree certain persons not to possess a weapon
