How Safe Is Your Chimney? NJ House Fire Serves As Critical Reminder
Firefighters quickly doused a smoky chimney blaze in Cresskill Wednesday night. Fortunately, it didn't cause the kind of damage that's possible when homeowners aren't vigilant. The Chestnut Street resident safely fled the two-alarm 11:30 p.m. blaze, Fire Chief Christopher S. Ulshoefer said. No injuries were reported. The fire, which damaged the first and second floors, was declared under control in about 20 minutes, the chief said. Flames blew through the roof of a two-family Ridgefield home on Monday. All residents got out safely and no one was injured in the two-alarm noontime blaze, Fire Chief David Brierty said. Firefighters found the second floor and basement of the Walnut Street house fully involved, Brierty said. Part of the roof collapsed soon after. It wasn’t the easiest job: The air was thick, with temperatures still in the high 80s, when a fire broke out in a home on a Palisades Park hill at the top of a private driveway. A firefighter was hospitalized in a destructive Fourth of July fire at the site of the former Plaza Diner near the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, responders said. The general-alarm blaze broke out at the 91 Jewell Street Apartments around 1:30 a.m. and quickly consumed the top floor and roof of the three-story multi-family building. Massive Fire Consumes South Jersey Strip Mall
Firefighters battled a massive blaze Friday that consumed a strip mall in Cherry Hill. There was no immediate word on what might have caused the blaze, which broke out at a business in the shopping center and sent flames into the air shortly before 11 a.m. Several ladder trucks were in operation after the roof of the structure collapsed, followed soon after by huge portions of the facade. Dumont firefighters made quick work of an overnight basement fire Thursday that sent smoke through a home. Smoke alarms roused residents, who all fled the 2½ -story Virginia Avenue home safely, authorities said. Landlord Gets Three Years In Deaths Of Little Ferry Girl, 5, Grandmother In Fire
A landlord who failed to follow state codes was sentenced Friday to a plea-bargained three years in state prison for a 2016 fire that killed a 5-year-old Little Ferry girl and her grandmother.
