Brendan Garvin, 20, was acting suspiciously when approached by Detective Sgt. Kevin Hebert and Detectives Michael Grassi and Eric Larsen, who were checking on reported drug dealing in the area on Wednesday, Police Chief James Batelli said Friday.
Given consent to search his car by Garvin, the detectives found the brownies, along with drug paraphernalia and the student’s belongings, reported stolen from the Mahwah Library, the chief said.
He was charged with drug, theft and possession of stolen property offenses and sent to the Bergen County Jail. A judge released Garvin less than 24 hours later, under New Jersey’s 2017 Bail Reform & Speedy Trial Act.
Just last month, Ramsey police said they arrested Garvin after he showed them bogus identification when he was caught him with 105 pills for sale, along with pot and alcohol, at a local hotel.
