Alix Elizabeth deMarees Morriss, 93, died in her home in Mahwah on Dec. 7 surrounded by her children. Born in Germany in 1926 from a noble lineage, with a title of Baroness, she went on to grow up in a country at war. Alix left home as a teenage refugee to complete a fulfilling and engaging life in Bergen County. There wasn’t a challenge she didn’t face head on. RAV4 Rolls, Skids In Rainy Mahwah Crash Near NY Border
An SUV rolled onto its roof and skidded about 25 feet after colliding with another vehicle during the rainy Thursday morning rush in Mahwah. Both drivers involved in the crash on Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202) near Grove Street were out of their vehicles when responding officers arrived just after 8:30 a.m., Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said. The RAV4 driver was headed north and lost control of the vehicle, which struck a Subaru headed in the opposite direction, Jaffe said. Both drivers were taken to The Valley Hospital, he said.

Minivan Slams Into Paramus Tree: Driver Hospitalized, Wheelchair-Bound Passenger OK
The driver of a van that struck a tree early Monday afternoon in Paramus was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains. A wheelchair-bound passenger whom she was transporting wasn't injured after the crash in front of 796 Paramus Road. The driver was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. A flatbed tow truck removed the minivan. Paramus police and EMS responded, along with a Valley paramedic team and an ambulance from New Bridge Medical Center. Boyd A. Feds Fine Cresskill Landscaper $17K After Carbon Monoxide Kills 2 Workers
A Cresskill landscaper was fined more than $17,000 by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration for exposing employees to carbon monoxide -- killing two of them. Police found two AJR Landscaping Inc. workers overcome by fumes from a running lawnmower with them in a closed trailer in Washington Township around 8 a.m. last December. The West New York landscapers were found unresponsive and not breathing on the ground at the 17-acre Washington Pond condominium complex off Pascack Road and Linwood Avenue. One Injured In Two-Car Hawthorne Crash
One person was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash during the morning rush in Hawthorne. A Volkwagen took down a street sign and hit a light pole Lafayette and Warburton avenues around 8:15 a.m. Both the VW and the Nissan were towed from the scene. Hawthorne police, DPW workers and Volunteer Ambulance Corps members responded, along with an ambulance from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

Police: Hawthorne Driver Rescued From Fiery Wreckage Of Head-On Glen Rock Crash Was Drunk
UPDATE: The trapped Hawthorne driver rescued from his car before the flames of a burning truck could reach him after a head-on crash in Glen Rock over the weekend was drunk, authorities said. Jason A. Bednar, 41, of Hawthorne was saved by a trio of Glen Rock police officers with “complete disregard for their personal safety,” Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. Responding police Sgt. A Ramsey EMS worker who helped revive a 22-year-old man who went into cardiac at a local gym was among a group of heroes honored by the local Knights of Columbus. The Valley Hospital is one step closer to its new Paramus campus. The borough's Planning Board on Thursday night unanimously approved the seven-story, 362-bed plan for a 40-acre parcel near Winters Avenue, NorthJersey.com reports. The main entrance will be located at Valley Health Plaza and Winters Avenue, across the street from the Luckow Pavilion, Valley's same-day-surgery and comprehensive cancer center. Ramsey Police Officer, Borough EMS Worker Revive Heart Attack Victim, 22, At Gym
A Ramsey police officer and EMS worker revived a 22-year-old who went into cardiac arrest at a local gym on Sunday. Marc Greenwood, a Ramsey Ambulance Corps member and Mahwah police dispatcher, was at Retro Fitness off Route 17 when the victim collapsed, Police Chief Bryan Gurney said. Greenwood, who used to work at the same gym, began CPR. Officer Bryan Stevens arrived soon after and brought the victim back to full consciousness with one shock from a defibrillator, the chief said. ? Hindus Demand Justice For Mahwah Priest In Alleged Ramsey Parking Lot Assault
His young daughter cowered in the back seat as a Hindu priest was attacked by a Mahwah man during a road-rage incident in the parking lot of a Route 17 shopping center in Ramsey, according to a police complaint. Members of the Hindu community are now demanding justice in the alleged attack. Pedestrian, 84, Struck In Wyckoff
An 84-year-old Wyckoff woman was hospitalized with injuries that authorities didn't consider life-threatening after she was struck at a busy intersection around noon. The 57-year-old Waldwick driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation after her 2018 Ford Edge struck the victim around 11:50 a.m., Lt. Joseph Soto said. No summonses were immediately issued, he said. The Wyckoff Police Traffic Bureau was investigating. The Wyckoff Ambulance Corps and paramedics from The Valley Hospital responded along with police.
