According to Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara, the following arrests were made: Melvin Thomas, 23, of East Orange, was arrested near North 12th Street and 6th Avenue on June 19, after police saw him with an unlabeled bottle of 48 Oxycodone pills and a handgun after a traffic stop. 5 Men Shot, 1 Dead In Newark One man was killed and four injured in a Newark shooting overnight Wednesday, authorities said. Tyrese McNeil, 18, and four other males were shot on North 12th Street in Newark around 12:55 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. All five were taken to University Hospital where McNeil was pronounced dead. The rest were in stable condition, Ambrose and Stephens said. The other victims include a 31-year-old from Irvington and three other men ages, 26, 20 and 19, all of Newark. No arrests have been made.
