An impaired driver who fled police in Ridgewood hit several vehicles with a sedan before he was finally captured just off Route 17 in Paramus. Lt. Brian Pullman and Officer Paul Knapp spotted a damaged BMW 535 that apparently was involved in a crash at the corner of North Maple and Franklin avenues in Ridgewood around 7 p.m. Thursday, Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. Driver Dead As Car Plunges Into Passaic River In Morris County (

A driver was killed after their car plunged into the Passaic River in Morris County Tuesday morning, police confirmed. The vehicle veered off the roadway alongside Home Goods at 977 Valley Road in Gillette before striking a tree and landing in a low water level portion of the Passaic River around 10:30 a.m., Long Hill Township Police Chief Ahmed Naga told DailyVoice.com. A shoplifting couple from Newark might've thought they’d made a clean break before a Lyndhurst police officer spotted their getaway car, authorities said. Police were called after an employee saw the couple flee the Home Goods store on New York Avenue with several large bags, Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said.
