Newark's Curfew For Kids Postponed: Mayor
The City of Newark has announced it is postponing its Juvenile Safety Ordinance, which was scheduled to go into effect on Friday, April 12. Mayor Ras Baraka and Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said a press conference will be scheduled and announced next week to include plans for the city’s Summer Safety Initiative. Under the plan, unaccompanied minors, ages 17 and below, who are more than 100 yards from their residence between 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. the following day will be given a verbal warning and will be escorted to his or her residence and released to the care of his or her …

A man wanted for a shooting in Newark on the morning of Wednesday, March 20, is at large, police said. At 7 a.m., Newark police responded to the 100 block of West Runyon Street and found a man had fired a handgun toward Hawthorne Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. No injuries were reported, though police recovered a .9 mm shell casing at the scene, Fragé said. Police are hoping to use surveillance footage to help identify the suspect, Fragé said. A 12-year-old Newark girl has been missing since Friday, Feb. 16, authorities said. Samiiyah Lopez-McMillan was last seen on the 90 block of Fabyan Place on Friday, Feb. 16, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. She was reported missing on Thursday, Feb. 22, Fragé said. Massive Fire Displaces 15 Newark Residents
Firefighters in Newark knocked down a three-alarm fire early Saturday, March 18. The blaze broke out around 7:05 a.m. at 851 South 19th St., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
