A vehicle collided with an overpass in Elizabeth sending debris flying onto the streets below, officials said. The crash occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike above Elizabeth Avenue Monday evening, April 15. Police said it forced the closure of Elizabeth Avenue at 4th Street. The roadway reopened early Tuesday morning, officers said. No injuries were reported, authorities said.

Elizabeth Man Arrested In Deadly New Year's Eve Stabbing
An Elizabeth man has been charged in a deadly New Year's Eve stabbing, authorities announced. Edwin Rivera, 48, stabbed Jose Burgos, 56, on the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue around 9 p.m. Dec. 31, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said. A witness drove Burgos to Trinitas Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Colleen Ruppert, who is prosecuting the case. A 29-year-old Montclair man was hospitalized after gunfire broke out at an Elizabeth nightclub Sunday, authorities said. The incident occurred just after 9:50 p.m. at Bamboleo on Elizabeth Avenue, a city spokeswoman told Daily Voice. According to RLS Media, the shooting happened at a large outdoor gathering where a confrontation became "out of control." That's when a gunman began firing multiple shots. A 30-year-old man died and another victim was injured in an overnight shooting in Elizabeth. Police responding to the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue found Eliezer Martinez, Jr. and another man with gunshot wounds around 1:30 a.m., Acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Skeletal Remains Found On Elizabeth Waterfront
Firefighters found what appeared to be skeletal remains while conducting training on an Elizabeth waterfront. The bones were found in the water near Elizabeth Avenue and Front Street Thursday, fire officials said. It wasn't immediately known if the remains were human or animal, firefighters said. An Elizabeth man was being held in the Union County Jail after stabbing a 67-year-old city resident dead on Valentine's Day, authorities said. Javier Ramirez-Jimenez, 48, was charged with reckless manslaughter in the death of Carlos Ariza, Acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said Sunday. A teen riding a scooter was hit by a truck in Elizabeth Wednesday night, according to witnesses and initial reports. The 16-year-old was struck by a tow truck at Spring Street and Elizabeth Avenue around 8 p.m. and later died, officials said. The truck driver remained at the scene.
