West New York Driver Hit Cyclist, Fled Scene: Prosecutors A 37-year-old West New York Man was charged on Friday, Nov. 3 with striking a cyclist and then leaving the scene last year, authorities said. On Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 12:20 p.m., Jason Flores was driving an Acura MDX when he hit a bicyclist, a 33-year-old North Bergen woman, riding an electric bike at 50th Street and Bergenline Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Flores did not remain at the scene, Suarez said. Man Killed In West New York Apartment Fire: Prosecutors A 55-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire in West New York on Sunday, August 20, authorities said. At 5 a.m.  North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue was notified of a fire at an apartment above 6213 Bergenline Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Upon arrival, first responders found heavy smoke coming from a bedroom within the apartment, Suarez said.  While firefighters were battling the blaze, they found Adrian Hernandez-Bienes unresponsive in the bedroom, Suarez said. The first was five alarms, and erupted in one of the shops on Bergenline Avenue sometime after 4:15 a.m. in West New York between 61st and 62nd streets.  A Carvel ice cream shop, BBQ joint, and smoke shop were among the businesses impacted, abc7 says. Then, in Union City, around 9 a.m., another multi-alarm blaze brought mutual aid to the scene. The fire was still raging as of noon. More than a dozen families were reportedly displaced.
