Tree Takes Down Power Lines, Sparks Fires, Knocks Out Traffic Lights In Paramus: Police A large borough tree came crashing down in Paramus on Friday, July 25, bringing utility wires and three utility poles down with it, police said. The incident occurred at 32 Farview Ave., where fallen wires sparked a fire in the roadway and ignited a small grass fire, according to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti. As of press time, more than 600 residents were without power. Emergency crews from the Paramus Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene and immediately shut down traffic. Route 17 North In Hasbrouck Heights Reopened After Transformer Fire The northbound lanes of Rt. 17 near Williams Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights were shut down around noon Tuesday due to a transformer fire, the state Department of Transportation said.  Police requested PSEG to respond on a rush.  The roadway was reopened about an hour later.
