A woman was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer and then hit by another car while crossing a street in Somerset County, authorities said. The unidentified woman was walking southbound in a designated crosswalk on Union Avenue at the Finderne Avenue intersection when she was struck by a tractor-trailer around 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to a joint statement from Bridgewater police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. A 78-year-old Maywood man was injured in a freak chain-reaction crash while protecting his dog from harm Sunday night, responders said. A 2012 Ford Explorer driven by a 17-year-old Rochelle Park man was headed west on East Central Avenue when it struck a legally parked vehicle that got pushed completely onto the sidewalk, hitting the victim as he walked his black Labrador shortly before 8:30 p.m., police said. Police asked the public for help finding the hit-run driver who struck and injured a 19-year-old North Bergen woman with his SUV as she crossed a notorious Palisades Park intersection. A man who killed a Teaneck father and his four daughters when his pickup truck veered across a Delaware highway into the path of their minivan was sentenced to a year's probation on Friday, according to a published report. Alvin Hubbard III, of Maryland, could be sentenced to 14 years in prison if he doesn't meet the requirements of his probation. Van Snaps Utility Pole In Ringwood
A driver sustained injuries that weren't considered life-threatening after a van slammed into a utility pole, snapping it, early Wednesday evening in Ringwood. Skyline Drive was closed at Greenwood Lake Turnpike after the crash just after 5:30 p.m. Power had to be cut to the pole so the driver could be taken to the hospital and the van could safely be removed.
