Jersey Shore Pedestrian Struck, Killed Walking On Garden State Parkway, State Police Say A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Toyota Friday afternoon while walking on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County, authorities said. The fatal crash occurred at 2:12 p.m. in a northbound lane of the parkway in Toms River, according to a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police. The parkway experienced heavy traffic delays in both directions as state troopers investigated the crash scene, reports said. All lanes were closed near Exit 34 - NJ 15 as of 10:30 a.m., according to 511nj.org. The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. Photos show the trailer hanging off the guardrail. Delays of 90 minutes were reported.  Motorists urged to plan alternate routes during rush hours.

Snapping Turtle That Slowed NJ Turnpike Traffic Rescued By State Troopers Traffic was crawling on the New Jersey Turnpike Friday -- as was the little guy causing the backup.  New Jersey State Troopers rescued a snapping turtle from the highway near Interchange 15W. "You just never know what’s causing a traffic delay—a broken down car, an accident, debris in the road, or maybe, just maybe, a tortoise," police said in a news release. "A couple of Troops made sure this guy was safely removed from the roadway before allowing traffic back into the lane."
