UPDATE: The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed an off-duty Newark Police Sergeant was the person who fatally struck and killed Jairo Rodriguez. The sergeant was not named. A 53-year-old Newark Traffic Control Officer was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the early morning of Thursday, Dec. 12, authorities said. Authorities in Newark captured a man who beat a hotel concierge sending him to the hospital in the midst of an 11-day burglary spree, they said.
