Heroin Found On NY Driver Pepper Sprayed By Officers After Pursuit Through NJ Yards, Police Say
A 50-year-old Rockland County man was found with heroin after leading a police pursuit over state lines, that ended with him hitting multiple vehicles — including police cars — in Mahwah, NJ on Tuesday evening, July 9, police said.
Trouble began sometime around 5:15 p.m., when Eugene McDermott, of Tomkins Cove, NY fled the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Sloatsburg, Mahwah Police Lt. Michael Blondin said.
Officers tried stopping McDermott, who was operating a Dodge pickup truck with significant damage, but he fled, Blondin said.

Beloved Hunterdon County high school student Anthony Joseph ‘AJ’ Zeoli died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, July 15. He was 16.
Born in Allentown, PA, AJ lived in Sloatsburg, NY, before moving to Union Township about seven years ago, his obituary says.
AJ was an upcoming senior at North Hunterdon Regional High School, where he was known as a class clown who was always able to make his friends laugh.

When people say renowned bass player and singer David J. Keyes of Franklin Lakes battled cancer, they mean it.
Keyes, who succumbed to the disease earlier this week – 12 years after being diagnosed – fought valiantly, never allowing it to darken a shining smile, those who knew him said.
“His mantra was one of grace, humility, passion and strength -- the glass was always half full no matter how much pain he was in,” wrote singer-songwriter and keyboardist Dave Keyes (no relation) of Sloatsburg. “He was always upbeat, always looking for the light.”

Citywide Paterson Police Strikes Net Dealers, Buyers, 800 Heroin Folds, Coke, Cash, Gun
Paterson police arrested several dealers and buyers throughout the city over a 10-day span, seizing more than 800 heroin folds, 75 vials and 10 bags of crack, $1,660 in cash, and an illegal handgun and ammo, authorities said Thursday.
In one strike, narcotics detectives hit a notorious drug neighborhood -- Godwin Avenue and Auburn Street -- arresting several accused street dealers and buyers while seizing 155 heroin folds, along with 66 vials and four bags of crack, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.
