Garfield Garage Blaze Doused
Garfield firefighters doused a Sunday morning garage blaze. It was going pretty good when they got to the March 10 fire, but they contained it to the one-story two-car garage behind a Market Street home. No injuries were reported. Mutual aid at the scene and in coverage was provided by fellow firefighters from Saddle Brook, Clifton, Elmwood Park, Lodi, Maywood, Passaic and Rochelle Park. One Ulta Thief Barricades Himself In Local Home, Another Strikes 3X In 10 Days: Maywood PD
Maywood police captured a repeat offender from Lyndhurst who’d barricaded himself in the basement of a local resident’s home after shoplifting from the Ulta store at the Bergen Town Center, authorities said. The arrest of Brendan Hunt, 46, comes amid an escalating epidemic of thefts from Ulta stores nationwide – including in Paramus, Montvale and throughout New Jersey. Rochelle Park Detectives Seize Kilo Of Coke, Bust NYC Duo Off Highway
A pair of Rochelle Park detectives nabbed two men with more than a kilo of cocaine, authorities said. Detective Sgt. Jared Shatkin and Detective Nick Mercoun found an older-model Honda Accord with two occupants over a line in a Midland Street parking lot just off Essex Street between Routes 80 and 17 around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, Capt. James M. DePreta said. As they approached, a passenger quickly ducked into a nearby business, he said. Maywood House Fire Doused
Residents, responders and the family cats made it out OK as Maywood 's bravest doused a house fire. The blaze ignited in the rear of the 1½-story wood-frame house at the corner of Palmer and Coolidge avenues shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13. Rochelle Park's fire chief was the first on scene, immediately followed by his Maywood colleagues. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Hackensack, Rochelle Park and Saddle Brook at the scene and from Garfield, Lodi and Paramus in coverage. North Jersey residents are feeling the impact of this week's storm with thousands still without power and schools closed or delayed. In Bergen County, houses were hit on East Midland Avenue in Paramus and on Sunset Avenue in Englewood. A Mahwah police officer also escaped serious injury when a falling tree struck his cruiser. ): Gas Tanker Flips From One Side Of Route 17 To Other, Dealership Destroyed
In nothing short of a miracle, no serious injuries were reported after a gas tanker truck exploded into a huge fireball on Route 17 Monday morning. A used car dealership and many of its two dozen or so vehicles were destroyed in the five-alarm blaze after the truck and a passenger vehicle collided near the U-turn at the White Castle on the highway's southbound side in Hasbrouck Heights at 5:43 a.m. Jan. 8. Naked Intruder Mops Floors In Private School: Rochelle Park PD
A homeless man with a criminal history was recorded on video entering a private school in Rochelle Park at night, stripping and then mopping the floors naked, authorities said. Chayson Ortiz, 30, is accused of trespassing at the Sage Day School both on Christmas Eve and Christmas. More than $2,000 in counterfeit 20s and 50s apparently intended for a Bergen County shopping spree was seized by Rochelle Park police during a traffic stop, authorities said. A South Carolina man wanted on an illegal gun possession charge out of Louisiana was caught by a Rochelle Park police officer with a loaded 9mm handgun and a high-capacity magazine in his truck, authorities said. Underage Teen Sexually Assaulted In Rochelle Park, Hackensack, Arrest Made, Prosecutor Says
An unemployed man living in Rochelle Park remained jailed following his arrest on charges of sexually assaulting an underage teen multiple times. Luis Zumba Chablay, 42, raped and otherwise sexually assaulted the victim, who was no more than 16, both in Rochelle Park and Hackensack, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Smoky Fire Closes Route 46 Popeyes
Firefighters doused an overnight blaze Thursday at the Popeyes Louisiana Chicken restaurant on westbound Route 46 in Lodi. The smoky fire broke out in the kitchen shortly before 1 a.m. Oct. 19, roughly two hours after closing time. Firefighters had it under control within a half hour. No injuries were reported.
