Officers responded to the Wing Stop on Essex Street in Rochelle Park around 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 28, after receiving a burglary report, according to Rochelle Park Police Capt. James DePreta. Investigators found signs of forced entry and determined that $400 had been stolen from two cash registers, police said.
Detectives Jared Shatkin and Nick Mercoun began investigating and quickly identified suspects, officials said.
Weeks later, on Feb. 17, Officer Michael Lamas pulled over a vehicle that had fraudulent license plates, police said. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that the occupants of the vehicle were tied to the Wing Stop burglary, DePreta said.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and found evidence linking the suspects to the Essex Street break-in.
On March 10, police arrested Karl Larrieux, 22, and Travis Duncan, 19, both of Fort Lee, according to DePreata.
Larrieux was taken into custody at his home, while Duncan surrendered at Rochelle Park Police Headquarters, authorities said.
Larrieux has been charged with burglary for unlawfully entering the Wing Stop with the intent to commit a crime inside. He has also been charged with theft for stealing two cash registers containing $400, criminal mischief for causing damage during the break-in, receiving stolen property for possessing items taken from the business, and possession of burglary tools for having equipment used to commit the crime, authorities said.
Duncan has been charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and theft for planning and participating in the crime, officials said.
Both men were committed to the Bergen County Jail to await a CJP hearing, DePreta said. The case remains under investigation, officials said.
