Authorities ID Jersey City Mom Who Died Hours After Infant
Both a newborn baby girl and her mom died after a home delivery in Jersey City over the weekend, authorities said. Sandra Provost, 41, gave birth to a baby girl who was pronounced dead at 33 Suburbia Ct. at 6:05 Saturday morning, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Provost was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where she died that afternoon, Suarez said. Authorities did not say whether or not Provost's condition was related to the birth of her new daughter. The baby's age was unknown, Suarez's office said. Iconic Italian Elizabeth Restaurant Spirito's For Sale
Spirito's in Elizabeth is on the market. The old-school Italian restaurant dates back to the Great Depression, and has earned a reputation as one of the most beloved Italian eateries in the state. The listings started popping up earlier this week. The restaurant, building and land are for sale -- along with the liquor license and second- and- third-floor apartments. The frigid temperatures served some skiers and snow boarders well at Mountain Creek. The Vernon resort cranked out some fresh powder to open one slope last Saturday and Sunday (both days a high of 38 degrees), the earliest opening in Mountain Creek history. S. Plainfield Cancels Labor Day Parade, Explosive Devices Found Near Route
Officials in South Plainfield Monday have cancelled a Labor Day parade and other activities over what officials described only as a "security concern." Officials did not immediately provide any information about the nature of the threat. A large police presence was seen Monday in Spring Lake Park and the parade route was closed off, according to a published report. Newark Police Officer Indicted In Fatal Shooting Following High-Speed Chase
A Newark police officer has been indicted on manslaughter, assault, official misconduct and other charges for shooting and killing a fleeing suspect earlier this year, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday night. A 29-year-old Jersey City man will spend most of the century behind bars for killing his girlfriend and the couple's toddler son three years ago, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement Tuesday. A retired Bayonne battalion chief was arrested for stealing artifacts from the Chief John T. Brennan Fire Museum and selling them online, said authorities who charged him. FBI: Suspicious Package For Cory Booker Intercepted In Florida
A suspicious package addressed to New Jersey Senator Cory Booker was recovered at a mail processing facility in Florida Friday morning, the FBI said. The package marks the 11th recovered this week "similar in appearance to the others" addressed to Trump critics, including Alec Baldwin.
