Maywood House Fire Doused
Residents, responders and the family cats made it out OK as Maywood 's bravest doused a house fire. The blaze ignited in the rear of the 1½-story wood-frame house at the corner of Palmer and Coolidge avenues shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13. Rochelle Park's fire chief was the first on scene, immediately followed by his Maywood colleagues. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Hackensack, Rochelle Park and Saddle Brook at the scene and from Garfield, Lodi and Paramus in coverage. Firefighters doused a Paramus house blaze on Tuesday. The smoky fire apparently broke out in an attached garage and extended into the attic of the Behnke Avenue home shortly after 11 a.m. Firefighters had the bulk of the two-alarm blaze knocked down within 45 minutes. A man who was caught vandalizing Saddle Brook police cars posted photos and videos of himself stealing an American flag from a firefighters memorial in Maywood and burning it, authorities said. Maywood Firefighters Prevent Blaze After H2O Spills On Electrical Board
MAYWOOD, N.J. — The Maywood Fire Department stopped a potential fire by shutting power in an apartment after water spilled onto an electrical unit Wednesday evening. A broken water main created a steam and electrical condition at the Elm Court apartments on Passaic Street, Fire Chief Chris Tuttle said. Firefighters turned off the electricity in unit 6A to prevent a potential fire situation, caused by water from the first floor leaking into the basement, Tuttle said. Passaic Street has reopened to traffic after being closed from Maywood Avenue to Golf Road.

Residential Gas Leak Shuts Maywood Block
MAYWOOD, N.J. – Traffic piled up in Maywood Tuesday evening. Vehicles were being diverted to surrounding streets as crews worked to locate a gas leak in a home near Coolidge Ave. and Spring Valley Road, according to a resident waiting in her car outside of her home. Authorities shut down portions of Coolidge Ave., Spring Valley Rd., Oak Ave. and Palmer Ave. Fire officials declined to comment. Responders included the Maywood Fire Department.
