UPDATE: A Leonia High School physical education teacher was arrested after authorities learned of an "inappropriate sexual relationship" with a student, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Friday. Edgewater Driver Charged With Carrying 72 THC Vape Cartridges
An Edgewater driver who at 20 already has an adult criminal history was carrying six dozen THC vape oil cartridges when he was stopped, borough police said. Marc A. Helewa, 20, told detectives who stopped him on Hilliard Avenue and Edgewater Place for having no front license plate and tinted windows that he had some pot in the center console of his 2014 Mercedes E350, Detective Sgt. School officials say the students from Leonia High School who are on a school trip in France were unharmed after visiting Notre Dame Cathedral shortly before the landmark Parisian church was heavily damaged by fire Monday. "All students from Leonia High School's French trip are safe. Fortunately, they left before the fire started. John Patrick Brennan of Edgewater died on Saturday, July 28. He was 23 years old. Born to Joseph and Mayda Brennan, John attended the Eleanor Van Gelder Elementary School and Leonia Middle School. He graduated from Leonia High School and attended classes at Bergen Community College. The Fairview resident was remembered as kind and caring with a kindred sprit and a passion for cars. A new ranking by U.S. News and World Report has ranked 23 of New Jersey's schools among the 500 best in the U.S. Five of those schools ranked in the top 10, including two from Bergen County. Support Surges For Leonia Student Who Saved Dog From Burning House
What Jei Yu saw when she came home from Leonia High School Friday was smoke coming from the walls of her house. She ran inside to grab her dog before contacting police and her mom, but it was too late. The house caught fire due to faulty wiring, according to a GoFundMe page, that had raised more than $1,200 as of Monday morning.
