Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan Save NJ Singer Nearly Sent Home On 'The Voice'
It was nearly over for Mara Justine, until Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan came to her rescue. The 21-year-old native lost in one of the knockout rounds on last week's episode of "The Voice" on NBC: Hailey Mia was crowned the winner of the challenge. But coaches Stefani and Horan each used a remaining steal with minutes to spare keeping Justine in the runnings, sending Caleb Sasser home. John Legend called Justine's rendition of Harry Nilsson's "Without You" her best performance on the show yet. While Stefani pled her case to be Justine's next coach, the Garden State native ultima…

Gwen Stefani Thinks 21-Year-Old NJ Singer Who Won 'The Voice' Battle Has Star Quality
A 21-year-old New Jersey native is impressing judges on NBC's "The Voice." Mara Justine, who hails from Galloway, won a singing battle as she harmonized with Claudia B., 25, in their rendition of "Son of a Preacher Man" on the Tuesday, Oct. 31 episode. Reba McEntire was the only judge who preferred Claudia's performance, but was impressed by both singers' talent given their ages. Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani, and John Legend — who coaches both women — all agreed the Mara ultimately won that battle. Niall and Gwen both called it "flawless," and Gwen noted Mara's star quality. Claudia B.…

Famed 'Lean On Me' Paterson Eastside Principal Joe Clark Dies
He roamed the hallways of Paterson Eastside High School with a bullhorn and bat, wielding a brand of drill-instructor discipline that drew both admirers and critics alike. He held news conferences at 7 a.m. and once expelled 300 students for "fighting, vandalism, abusing teachers, and drug possession" – all in a single day. And he left such an indelible mark that John Legend, Wendy Calhoun and LeBron James were preparing to create a TV drama about him 30 years after his retirement. Joe Louis Clark, a Georgia-born, longtime South Orange resident who appeared on the cover of Time magazine an…

This isn't the first time John Legend has made a pit-stop for snacks in New Jersey -- this time, it's Union County. The Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award-winner was seen Saturday in ShopRite of Linden to pick up a bag of Haribo gummy bears. The "All of Me" star was supposed to play at OZY Fest in New York City that day, but it was cancelled due to the heat wave. Late last year, Legend stopped at a 7-Eleven in Wood-Ridge and donated $20 to local firefighters.

John Legend Stops At North Jersey 7-Eleven, Donates To Fire Department
Two Wood-Ridge firefighters were outside 7-Eleven in Wood-Ridge selling tickets to the department's upcoming fundraiser breakfast when John Legend pulled up Sunday morning. The singer, producer and composer went into the store -- after one firefighter explained what the cause was for -- and came out with $20. That's when he handed it to the firefighters, got back in his car and drove off, firefighters said. Legend didn't say what he was doing in the area but firefighters speculated he may have been at Teterboro Airport, approximately a mile away from the Hackensack Avenue store. Last year,…
