Shocking electric bills have New Jersey families sweating — but help is on the way. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) voted Wednesday, Aug. 13, to give every residential customer a total of $100 in bill credits this fall. A storm system that swept through the region Saturday afternoon, Aug. 3 left hundreds of North Jersey residents without power. As of 5:40 p.m., about 950 PSE&G customers in Hackensack did not have power, its website shows. In Closter, 145 Orange & Rockland customers were in the dark. A tree worker was killed after coming in contact with a power line in Morris County on the afternoon of Thursday, April 4, police said.
