Repeat Embezzler Absconds To Germany With Bergen Realtor’s $600,000
A convicted embezzler who’d apparently made a fresh start fled to Germany with $600,000 of a Bergen County realtor and commercial property manager’s money, authorities said.
Detectives in Closter were closing in on Klaus Brueggemeier, 57, of Demarest, when he absconded to Frankfurt and became a wanted man, Closter Police Capt. Vincent Aiello said on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Brueggemeier made headlines in 2009, when authorities charged him with embezzling $1.7 million from a high-end porcelain and glass company in Carlstadt.

Klaus Meckeler, a gastroenterologist from Somerset County, brought the property at 99 Ocean E. — about a quarter mile off the coast of Marathon, FL — for $25,000, as reported by Tom Avril, of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Born in Germany, Meckeler immigrated to the U.S. in 1958, lived in Far Hills before he moved to Annandale in 1998, 10 years before he died, his obituary says.

A longtime EU delegate last week disappeared from a walking path just outside of Washington, according to Reuters and her LinkedIn page.
Sibylle Zitko, 54, of Bethesda, MD, went missing from the Lock 7 area of the C&O Canal in Cabin John, on Thursday, Jan. 6. She had last been seen in Bethesda around 6 a.m. that day, authorities said.

Medical Technician Lauren Poepper Of Clifton Dies At 31
CLIFTON, N.J. – Lauren Lynn Poepper of Clifton died on Dec. 21. She was 31.
Poepper was born in Passaic and was a lifelong resident of Clifton. She was a medical technician and certified phlebotomist who also loved working with animals.
“Lauren will be remembered for her loving nature, outgoing personality, caring heart and unconditional devotion to her family and friends,” her obituary states.
Poepper was predeceased by her mother, Patricia (Bates) Poepper and Opa, Ronald Bates.
