Police: Drunk Jersey Shore Driver's SUV Topples Two Traffic Lights, Burns Up
A Jersey Shore driver was drunk when his SUV knocked down two highway traffic lights in a row before careening across oncoming traffic and catching fire, authorities said Monday. Toms River police said they found Kristofer I. Coltenback, 43, of Manchester standing outside his burning Ford Explorer shortly after 3 a.m. Coltenback, who had a prior criminal record, was driving on the revoked list as he headed west on Route 37 approaching the Peter Avenue intersection when he swerved to the left, police said in a release. 19: Lakewood Police Crash Another Wedding
Lakewood police cited yet another Jersey Shore wedding host for holding a large gathering during the coronavirus outbreak, authorities said. Officers responding to another call Thursday saw 40 or so people gathered on Wayne Street, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said Friday. They issued a summons to local resident William Katzenstein, 39, for "violating any rule or regulation adopted by the governor," the prosecutor said. Then everyone dispersed, he said. Summonses issued at two large gatherings in Lakewood this week underscore the lengths to which law enforcement will go to protect New Jerseyans from the spread of the coronavirus, Attorney General Gurbir S. Murphy Signs Executive Order Closing All Non-Essential Businesses, Urges Residents To Stay Home
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Saturday ordered non-essential retail businesses closed and directed nearly all residents to stay home, as the number of deaths from the coronavirus rose to 16 -- five of them from last night -- and the number of positive cases jumped to 1327. 19: First Case Announced In Hackensack
A Hackensack woman was the city's first presumed positive case of COVID-19, city officials said Monday night. The 49-year-old woman was discharged from a local hospital and recovering in self-quarantine at her home. The news comes just after Bergen County Jim Tedesco announced a new executive order closing malls and most other businesses effective Tuesday night. As of Monday afternoon there were 178 coronavirus cases in the state, with 32 in Bergen County -- by far the most statewide.

Democrat Phil Murphy was sworn in as New Jersey's 56th governor Tuesday afternoon in Trenton. Murphy of Middletown replaces Republican Chris Christie, who was in office for eight years. Later in the afternoon, Murphy signed his first Executive Order as governor promoting equal pay for women -- putting him closer to his promise of a "fairer, stronger New Jersey."
