Fumes Overcome Four At Bergen Community College Four workers at Bergen Community College were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after being overcome by fumes from an apparent cleaning product, responders said. Work apparently was being done when a mixture was poured that created the fumes in the kitchen area of the Pitkin Education Building off Paramus Road around 4 p.m. No students were affected, responders said. The building, which houses the Student Center, was evacuated and was to remain closed Tuesday evening. Heroes: First-Responding Paterson Police Officers Evacuate Burning Building UPDATE: A trio of Paterson police heroes evacuated a multi-family home during a Saturday morning fire, getting several residents to safety, authorities confirmed. Officers Edward Akins, Kevin Brito and Mark Alvarez were instantly on the scene of the Oak Street fire and got all of the residents out safely, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said. Bomb Squad: Abandoned Gas Can With Rag Stuffed Into It Forces Evacuation Of Teaneck Complex The Glenpointe complex in Teaneck was evacuated after a gas can with a rag in it was found near a generator, authorities said Friday. "We learned during the investigation that it may have been left there by a maintenance worker for one of the building tenants," Police Chief Glenn O'Reilly said. As a precaution, police evacuated the Frank Burr Boulevard complex between Teaneck Road and Route 95 shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday, the chief said. The Bergen County Bomb Squad responded and determined the item wasn't suspicious, he said.
