Police ID Jersey Shore Drowning Victim, 46
Authorities have identified the man who drowned Wednesday, Sept. 14 off Ortley Beach. Matthew Mauro, 46, was brought to shore by Seaside Heights Beach Patrol units via jet skis around 1:55 p.m., Toms River police said. CPR was immediately initiated before Mauro was taken to Community Medical Center. He was pronounced dead by hospital staff. Toms River police, Seaside Heights Beach and Fire units, Tri-Boro First Aid, TRPD CSO's and RWJ Paramedics all assisted with resuscitation efforts.

Missing Swimmer Pulled From Water Off Jersey Shore (

A missing swimmer was pulled from the waters off the Jersey Shore Saturday, Sept. 10, sources with direct knowledge of the incident tell Daily Voice. It was not immediately clear if the swimmer survived. The incident occurred in Loveladies sometime in the afternoon. Long Beach police did not immediately respond to Daily Voice's request for comment placed Sunday morning.

Woodland Park police were investigating the death of a woman found face down in a backyard swimming pool. Responding officers found a man holding the body of the 69-year-old victim above the water at the Rifle Camp Road home near the Great Notch Reservoir shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Capt. 2-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Backyard North Jersey Pool
A 2-year-old boy drowned in his family's backyard pool over the weekend in Union County, authorities said. Family members pulled the boy from the pool on the 400 block of McKinley Street in Linden and immediately began CPR on Sunday, July 31, Linden Police Capt. Christopher Guenther said. The boy was rushed to Trinitas Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The incident remains under joint investigation by the Linden Police Detective Bureau, the Linden Police Juvenile Aid Bureau, and the Union County Homide Task Force.

A Nigerian man drowned in the Hudson River after falling off a docking boat, authorities said. The boat had made it into the Englewood Marina at the foot of the Palisades in Englewood Cliffs just north of the George Washington Bridge when he fell off shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Lt. Body Pulled From Hudson River After Good Samaritan Jumped In To Help: Police
A man's body was pulled from the Hudson River in Hoboken after a Good Samaritan tried rescuing him, authorities said. Officers responding to the scene around 8 p.m. saw the 52-year-old man floating face-down, and a 63-year-old man who had been trying to help him climbing out, city police said in a tweet. Firefighters pulled the victim, a Jersey City resident, from the water at 7th street and Sinatra drive, and he was pronounced dead. The incident was not considered suspicious in nature, police said.

UPDATE: A 1-year-old boy was clinging to life after his mother pulled him from their backyard pool in Paramus, authorities said. Officers rushed to an emergency call at the Beechwood Drive home shortly before 7 p.m. Monday and found the woman conducting CPR, responders said.
